Loop trail at the foot of Taygetos
- Parori – Taygetos
- 4h
- From €48,-
In Taygetos there are many well-preserved trails that until recently connected the plain of Sparta with the mountain villages. Hiking on them is an excellent way of connecting with the plethora of nature and cultural elements of Taygetos. One of those trails is the one we offer with starting point being the village Parori near Mystras. The old path, wisely crafted, will lead us up smoothly to the abandoned monastery of Panagia Zagouna, built in a large hollow of the rock. We will continue through the verdant Chrysolangado to the Faneromeni Monastery, the highest point of the route. From there we will go down to Lagada’s stream. The last part of the hike is a spectacular trail that goes down the stream. The path, in several places, is carved on towering rocks. The view of the hillsides, the rich vegetation and the clear water make up an amazing landscape. A small detour leads us to the cave church of Panagia Lagadiotissa, filled with 14th century frescoes. The end of the hike is the village Parori, the place we departed from.
